Beautiful Fabrics + Wallpaper: Giusy Pirrotta - Installation Venice

Client Case Study:

Guisy Pirotta commissioned us to print their designs onto both fabrics and wallpapers. The installation at the Galleria Massimo de Luca, Venice.

"For this exhibition the design of wallpaper and fabric is made by the artist, who uses botanical and floral imagery as an illusionary surface able to transport the viewer somewhere else.
This use is thought also in relation to the study of the early Movie Theatres, especially the Atmospheric Theatre designed by John Eberson, who recreated the outside inside the Cinema space through the reproduction of fake gardens, the sky and house's facade around the screen. The viewer's gaze was travelling in and outside the screen during the experience of the film and the Movie Theatre was not completely darkened out."

And so, as the runways and Interior showrooms of Paris, New York and London come to a close, let’s reflect on their influence with a brief look at the strongest trends for the next 6 months. Fast Fashion brings a new beat to Trends - WTIN article 2016

Read the first of our Trend Hub articles for WTIN magazine.

As a designer myself i know how hard it is for our community to get the PR it deserves, and so i'm very happy to announce that 14 International Designers have been featured in this report.

Beccy Bland, Alicia de Costa, Frances Shaw, Merve Aruta, Lizzie Clark, Ritu Srivastava, Catalina Gonzalez, Dorothy Otite, Maya ELB, Geoff Haley, Vicci Gibson, Jess Cooper, Diane Marsland, Maarten Pongee, Tabitha Mardle - Your work is beautiful!!

There can be no doubt that fast fashion and the use of digital print techniques have transformed our industry forever. The consumer demands an ever faster stream of products delivered to the market in super-fast time frames; changing the buying patterns of retailers, large and small. With almost half of the world’s population being online for 2017, retailers must realise new opportunities to engage and excite their customers and drive online sales. This year we have seen the high street giant TopShop join forces with google to stream their Topshop Unique catwalk feed live through google search and, for September, for the first time consumers will be able to buy the products online live from the catwalk......

Why do we crave that unique item? Something nobody else has, our own look and personalized design statement. Is this the kickback from the Primark generation, no longer happy with mass produced items offered at low price points?

Talking Digital Print at Digetex HQ with Tansy Fall from WTIN

Talking Digital Print at Digetex with Tansy Fall of WTIN

With growth predicted for the UK digital textile printing market, established businesses in the UK are being provided with more and more opportunities to evolve. However, can this growth be supported by the industry? WTiN visited prominent specialist digital print business Digetex, who custom print for Interiors, Homeware, Fashion and Contract clients worldwide, based in Manchester, UK, to talk to creative director Debbie McKeegan, whose use of digital has seen the company go from strength to strength.

As a newly appointed board director for FESPA UK, McKeegan is looking to instigate more communication between the print world and designers, and likewise the academic institutions that train designers and technologists, in order to build a stronger industry.

McKeegan says: “[Designers coming out of university] need a more commercial grounding in their education, and maybe that is lacking in the education sector because there is lack of knowledge. A kind of post-generation gap, because textiles in the UK has a little bit of a demise, or rather a large demise, in the 90s, so there’s a 20-year generation gap […] and I don’t think students necessarily leave with the tools and the skills that they need to go out there and get employment.
